Summer Camp 2013
This year the Scout Troop Summer Camp was held at our Area campsite, Cwmrhaeadr near Llandovery.
The camp was a great success and Scouts and Leaders had a wonderful week.
The week was relaxed, with various activities on offer each day, but most time was spent exploring and playing in the woodland and stream around the site. Scouts took their mountain bikes and were able to enjoy the mountain bike trails, and some took part in a mountain bike trial.
Many happy hours were spent whittling pieces of wood into various shapes from whistles to spoons.
On Thursday we went to Glanamman where members of the Carmarthenshire Youth Service team took the Scouts deep underground into the caves at Llygad y Ffynnon, near the source of the River Loughor - an activity enjoyed by all.
Several Scouts undertook the camp cook badge, and succesfully planned and cooked a day's menu over open fires. Best menu award went to David, Owen and Tom for their wonderful Scout summer camp breakfast, chicken wrapsidies for lunch and campfire potatoes and sausages for supper with chocoladas for pudding!
We also had lots of campfire singing and several wide games - though rain stopped play before we had chance to play the favourite Touch the Barrel!
Highlights for the Scouts were the free time spent with their friends, damming the stream, caving and for the girls realising that 'boys aren't all idiots!'
There were some good friendships formed during the weekand many happy memories to treasure.
